Day 11: A (Mostly) Wordless Wednesday

Joy.

If I had to pick one picture to represent pure joy, it would be this one. L. is a beautiful little girl who was in a car accident that she shouldn't have survived, but she did. Mom was not so lucky. She went from a happy typically developing girl to one trapped by the limitations of her body and seizure-ridden brain, and then she became one of the hardest workers and brightest spirits I've encountered at my work. She is truly an angel. Textbooks say she should have stopped making progress in her recovery a long time ago, and still she continues to amaze us all. She can form sentences, carry on conversations, recite the alphabet, and is slowly regaining the ability to walk, hold crayons, put on clothes, and various other daily activities she once had mastered and that we often take for granted. I am lucky enough to spend at least 45 minutes every Wednesday with this precious little girl helping her legs remember how to walk. It is the best part of my week! She is my angel, one of the many reasons I want to pursue pediatric therapy. We caught this picture mid "cheese!" and it is perfect. It so embodies L's positive attitude and lust for life, and it makes me happy just looking at it!

Work has been a little rough lately and I'm glad I had the opportunity to take a step back and remember all the reasons I love my job!
