Day 37: This One Time at Band Camp

 Wednesday, August 17, 2011

After spending all day every day outside spinning, it's smart to thoroughly enjoy your breaks by sprawling out on the cold tile floor with a few of your close friends. Just try not to laugh because it's a chain reaction :)

I am SO Behind!

 Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Apologies for my absence these past few weeks, I promise I have a picture for every day... just no time to post them! I really hit the ground running after returning from Orlando -- first a full day of work followed by a full day of packing, then a moving in to my new apartment at TCU and starting band camp as one of two awesome color guard captains... I have no idea where all the hours in the day are disappearing to. My goal is to be completely updated with the mossing posts by the end of this week, while also not letting myself miss any more days! Wish me luck!

Day 36: Who left them in charge?

 Sunday, August 14, 2011

Captains Amanda and Amanda (affectionately known as "Amanda Squared")
That's right, we really are both named Amanda, and it's working out well for us!
I am SO looking forward to this marching season :)

Day 34: New Uniforms!

 Friday, August 12, 2011

Isn't it gorgeous? I am slightly concerned though... did no one tell our director that it's 110 degrees outside, and he wants us to wear long sleeve turtle necks?!

Day 27: Home Sweet Home!

 Friday, August 5, 2011

You are probably wondering why today's picture is a freshly made (and devoured) pumpkin pie in the middle of summer. The answer? Because my family is awesome. Growing up, pies were only for special occasions. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and occasionally a birthday would justify a pie (or two, or three!). I love pie, and so over the years we decided why wait? It's something we all love and love to make together, so who says it's only for special occasions?

As you can see, this one was delicious. Luckily I actually have a kitchen in my apartment this year, so there will be no shortage of baked goods!

Day 26: Traveling is Not for the Faint of Heart

 Thursday, August 4, 2011

After a morning of one last visit to the , and packing up our belongings, we headed to the airport. Although our flight was not until after 8 in the evening we arrived at the airport early. As karma would have it, our flight was delayed an extra 45 minutes. It was a little nerve wracking checking the screens and crossing our fingers that the last flight to Dallas would not be pushed back further or even cancelled, especially with the hurricane weather getting closer!

Luckily we made it on the plane, but not without some technical difficulties. About 30 minutes into our flight, the pilot comes over the speakers and announces that we do not have any water pressure. Us being the naaive citizens that we are, we kind of panicked a little. Is the plane broken? Are we going to crash? Fortunately the only result of having no water pressure is no flushing toilets... phew! A note to all future pilots: ALWAYS start off ambiguous announcements with "ladies and gentlemen, this is NOT an emergency but..."

Eventually we made it home safely, thus concluding me and Emily's epic Orlando Adventure!

Day 25: Ron Jon's and the Boardwalk

 Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Today was day 2 of Cocoa Beach! Emily and I had another great morning playing in the waves and exploring a famous surf shop called Ron Jon's. We spent the evening at the boardwalk and taking random crazy pictures on the beach. We ate dinner at the pier (both of us had Salmon) and looked out at the beach as we ate. I will definitely miss this place!

Day 24: Cocoa Beach!

 Tuesday, August 2, 2011

After a full day at Universal Studios we relaxed at the hotel and woke up the next morning to head to Cocoa Beach. I have missed the Ocean dearly! We were within walking distance to the beach which was great, and we spent most of the day outside playing in the sand and the waves.

One of my favorite activities at the beach as a child was to make these weird drippy sand castles. My dad taught me how to do it -- you grab a big handful of really watery sand and let it drip through your fingers. If you do it right, it can look a little like this:

Overall it was a great day!

Day 23: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

 Monday, August 1, 2011

Emily and I woke up bright and early to make our debut at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter... and it did not disappoint! We rode the rides, looked in the shops, and explored Hogwarts! Both of us got wands -- Hermione's for me and the elder wand for Emily. In typical TCU fashion, I couldn't leave without a chocolate frog.
Grandma joined us later and we ate lunch at the Three Broomsticks, which looked exactly like it did in the movies. The rest of the day was filled with exploring the rest of the park, including an absolutely terrifying Jurrassic Park themed log style ride. It was an 80 foot drop into a pool of water and we got soaked, but it was ok because it helped us stay cool the rest of the day.

Here's just a few of the great pictures we took that day:

Super excited to finally be at Hogwarts (the castle is in the background!)
